Ground Fire Hydrant

Description:

A ground fire hydrant (also called an underground or flush fire hydrant) is a type of fire hydrant installed below ground level, with only a small access cover or outlet visible at the surface. Unlike traditional above-ground hydrants, ground fire hydrants are less prone to damage from vehicles or weather conditions.

Key Features:

  • Underground Installation: The main components are housed below ground, reducing exposure to external damage.
  • Frost Protection: Ideal for colder climates as they are less likely to freeze compared to above-ground hydrants.
  • Low Profile: Since they sit flush with the ground, they do not obstruct traffic or pedestrian pathways.
  • Requires a Standpipe: Firefighters attach a special standpipe or hydrant key to access the water supply.
